Primary research

Today we did a practical workshop on camera and infinity lighting for a mobile phone advert. The studio was set up with three lights which light up the studio. A white paper is used on the table to give it an infinite environment. The camera is a bit overexposed to make the background completely white archive the infinite effect, but not too overexposed to make the phone look overexposed. The ISO should be a maximum of 800 because if this exceeds 800 the image will begin to look grainy and noisy. The shutter speed should be 1/50 as we film in 50fps or 25fps. This is because the electricity in Europe, Africa, Most of Asia and Australia use 50hz for their electricity and the lights flicker at 50 times a second so by filming in these shutter speeds, it syncs up with the light flicker. In North America and Japan and some other countries, 60hz is used and lights flicker 60 times a second. This is why they use 24, 30 and 60fps or 1/60 shutter speed. To move the phones, gloves were used to prevent fingerprints on the phone to keep the phone in top condition for the shoot. If there are fingerprints, anti-static wipes are used to clean them. Light stands are used as a tripod to hold the lights high up for the subject. Barn doors are used to make less light to spread out.

Today we learned techniques using a camera slider. The techniques we used is pan, tilt, tracking and dolly zoom or they can all be used at once.
